When it comes to
the EMS training for the EMTs and Paramedics at
Madison Township, we do more than what the state
requires. Currently Indiana State law requires that
EMTs must have a total of 36 continuing hours of
training and paramedics must have 72 continuing
hours of training in a two year period.
Training at
Madison Township goes much farther than that
however. Last year paramedics averaged about 100
hours alone, well above the state requirements.
Training is made
available by equipment that has been either purchased or
donated. Last year Madison Township received a
very large grant from the Kendrick Foundation of
Mooresville and we were able to purchase training
manikins and CPR trainers.
Each EMT at
Madison Township holds at a minimum an EMT
certification and CPR card. Paramedics hold a
paramedic certification, CPR card, Advance Cardiac
Life Support (ACLS certification), Pediatric
Advanced Life Support (PALS certification).
Both EMTs and
paramedics can hold certifications in BTLS (Basic Trauma
Life Support certification), PHTLS (Prehospital Trauma
Life Support certification) and ambulance driver
classes.
All members of the
department are certified firefighter I and II (one and
two).
Juan Alcala joined the
Madison Township Fire Department in 2005 after coming
from Wishard Hospital where he was an EMT and Paramedic
since 1996.
After 9 years of
working in the busiest paramedic service in the
state, Juan brings to the department a broad
spectrum of knowledge.
Juan was promoted to
EMS coordinator in June 2007.
